Drone Survival Guide

Our ancestors could spot natural predators from far by their silhouettes. Are we equally aware of the predators in the present-day? Drones are remote-controlled planes that can be used for anything from surveillance and deadly force, to rescue operations and scientific research. Most drones are used today by military powers for remote-controlled surveillance and attack, and their numbers are growing. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) predicted in 2012 that within 20 years there could be as many as 30.000 drones flying over U.S. Soil alone. As robotic birds will become commonplace in the near future, we should be prepared to identify them. This survival guide is an attempt to familiarise ourselves and future generations, with a changing technological environment.
This document contains the silhouettes of the most common drone species used today and in the near future. Each indicating nationality and whether they are used for surveillance only or for deadly force. All drones are drawn in scale for size indication. From the smallest consumer drones measuring less than 1 meter, up to the Global Hawk measuring 39,9 meter in length.

Wildfox Couture: “Gatsby Stole My Heart” Lookbook

Just after the release of a certain obscure Australian art film comes Wildfox Couture‘s Great Gatsby-inspired fall lookbook. The clothes are decadent, the atmosphere is trippy, and the styling is mercifully non-literal about its 1920s roots (there are few of us who can pull off the head-to-toe flapper thing without looking costume, or even want to). The only thing that’s missing is a t-shirt printed with the eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg. Continue reading »
Rough Sketches Come to Life as Furniture by Daigo Fukawa

Usually it takes a long way for a sketch to be turned into an actual product. Japanese designer Daigo Fukawa just might change all that, however, with his series of furniture called “Rough Sketch Products” that look like they’ve just been transferred directly from his sketchbook to reality. The project was submitted as Fukuhawa’s senior thesis exhibition at Tokyo University of the Arts.
Made from cleverly arranged wire and photographed with a perfectly blank background, his various benches and chairs trick our perception of dimensions. Suddenly, 2D meets 3D, and the people sitting on these unique scribbled creations seem to be levitating in the air. It might not be the comfiest furniture out there, but it will definitely put a smile on your face.

Located in Crossville, Tennessee, the Minister’s house is the world’s biggest tree house, and was built by Horace Burgess. It is 97 foot tall (3om), 10-story high, uses 6 trees as its foundations, and took over 14 years to be built. “I built it for everybody. It’s God’s treehouse. He keeps watch over it,” said Burgess, who got inspired in 1993 after a vision. “I was praying one day, and the Lord said, ‘If you build me a treehouse, I’ll see you never run out of material.” Cost of construction you might ask? $12,000! Let’s go live in the woods then! Hot water what? Continue reading »

Methamphetamine is highly addictive. While the withdrawal itself may not be dangerous, withdrawal symptoms are common with heavy use and relapse is common.
Methamphetamine-induced hyperstimulation of pleasure pathways can lead to anhedonia months after use has been discontinued. Investigation of treatments targeting dopamine signalling such as bupropion, or psychological treatments that raise hedonic tone, such as behavioral activation therapy, have been suggested. Henry’s Concepts: Adorable Photo Series Directed Entirely by a Two-Year-Old

In order to make a little bit of money on the side, Toronto-based portrait and wedding photographer Alex Neary does some nannying, but she probably never expected that her nannying gig would be her ticket to viral photography success.
You see, for the last year and a half, she’s been looking after a ridiculously cute and creative toddler named Henry, who one day decided that he wanted to turn the camera around and photograph Alex for a change. Thus was born the adorable photo series Henry’s Concepts.
It’s really that simple, but the photos that have come out of the project — many of them forcing Neary into funny, contorted, and probably less-than-comfortable positions — have attracted the attention of everyone.

Wovel – The Ultimate Snow Shovel

The Wovel could possibly be the most advanced human snow removal machine ever created, next to simply getting someone else to do it. The revolutionary wheel design reduces the risks associated with heart attacks and back injuries because it uses adjustable leverage and your own body weight to push, lift, and throw snow up to 18″ deep. The best feature about the Wovel is compared to a gas-powered snow blower, this one will always start. Continue reading »

DIY Novelty Flash Drive
“This isn’t a photo of the final product, but it’s very similar! You’ll need a USB “A” connector. Free, dead cables and peripherals are best, of course, but if all else fails you can also get cheap ones at Goodwill. Try to find “normal” sized connectors. Super compact ones (like Apple USB cables) might work, but you’ll need to be extra careful about what size flash drive you choose. I recommend cutting the cable at least a quarter inch longer than you want it to be at the end.” Continue reading »
