Silence/Shapes – Award-winning Smoke Bomb Photos by Filippo Minelli
In 2009, Filippo Minelli started taking photos of smoke-bombs in romantic landscapes to juxtapose the beauty of nature with the violence of a medium devoted to create chaos bringing about a stunning result. These powerful images, taken in various areas around Europe, have been shown in art exhibitions, publications and were featured on many art and design-related websites.
Silence/Shapes has also been shown at Venice Biennale 2011 and was on the cover of the prestigious art-magazine Elephant in early 2013. Continue reading »

First Place Winner: “Dig me river”. I was in Manaus/Amazon during the Brazilian Aquathlon (swimming and running) championship in. This river is called Rio Negro (Black River) due to water color. Rio Negro is the largest left tributary of the Amazon, the largest blackwater river in the world. While the name Rio Negro means Black River, its waters aren’t exactly black; they are similar in color to strong tea. The dark color comes from humic acid from incomplete breakdown of phenol. I photographed it from the water and my lens got completely wet, but there was so energy in this boys that I just didn’t worry about that. Escape Artist Anthony Martin Faces Coffin Skydive at 14,500 Feet
Escape artist Anthony Martin has survived being handcuffed, locked inside a coffin and then tossed out of an airplane. Mr. Martin pulled off the daring escape overnight in a skydive over Serena, Illinois and told Fox News he was “pretty confident” it was the best escape artist stunt of all times.

Sea Creatures Come out for Coney Island’s Mermaid Parade

Spearfishing is a type of hunting done with underwater guns, harpoons and strong line. Freediving is a type of breath-hold diving in which divers descend for the duration of one breath, without any SCUBA tanks or any breathing apparatus. The best freedivers can hold their breath for over five minutes and go deeper than 100 feet. The combination of both these skills makes a high adrenaline sport done by only a few brave souls…

Ice Bubbles Create Picturesque Scene at the Foot of the Rocky Mountains
Located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains on the North Saskatchewan River, the rare phenomenon occurs each winter in the man-made lake. The simple but stunning nature of the bubbles was captured on camera by a 40-year-old American photographer, Chip Phillips, who walked onto the lake for a better view of the scene. Ice bubbles occur during the months of November and March when the plants on the lake bed release methane gas, which freezes as it comes closer to the cold surface of the lake. American Teacher Dale Irby has become an Internet sensation after school photos of him wearing the same tank top and shirt for 40 years went viral. Dale Irby, 63, accidentally wore the same brown v-necked tank top and big-collared disco shirt for two consecutive school photos from 1973. When he realised what he had done, wife Cathy dared him to repeat it for the third-year running.
