Climbers “painted” the Matterhorn red this week to celebrate a special anniversary. A group of mountaineers left red beacons along the route of the famous climb, which is one of the highest mountains in the Alps, and as nightfall came the imposing mountain came alive with colour. The event was organised by clothing brand Mammut to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first explorers to scale the mountain.

Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman’s latest creation, a 25 meter (82 feet) white rabbit, leans up against an old aircraft hangar as part of the Taoyuan Land Art Festival in Taoyuan, Taiwan, Tuesday, September 2, 2014. Catherine Hui, a contestant in the Miss NY Chinese Beauty Pageant 2014, has makeup applied before the show at the Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville, Conn. In its 13th year, MNYCBP has become one of the most influential Chinese events in the U.S., while providing a major platform for American Chinese girls to enter the entertainment industry in China. The pageant accentuates the girls’ eyes to look bigger and doll like. “I have a mono lid…I love my Oriental eyes because they make me different”, said Alice Zhang. “But they (pageant team) always change it to give me the double eye lid”. The girls are taught to use double eye lid tape, enlarging eye contacts, Dolly Wink eye lashes, a lot of sun block and bright pink make up to achieve a wholesome and innocent look. “The Chinese beauty aesthetic is similar to Anime – super flawless”, said contestant Stephanie Hau. Cats Get Their Claws Into World Leaders For Internet Censorship Campaign
The claws are out for North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un and Russia’s Vladimir Putin – as cats now able to use a model of him as a scratching post. And moggies can also maul at Russian president Vladimir Putin, whose face also features on the new cat toys which are 1.5ft tall and cost £4,500. They are made from hessian rope, and 3D-printed faces are then attached to the posts, before they are handpainted. The toys took a team of artists 200 hours to finish. Continue reading »
Alex Minsky, Marine Who Lost a Leg and Gained a Modeling Career
U.S. Marine Alex Minsky lost his leg and nearly died in Afghanistan three years ago, when he and his fellow Marines fell victim to a roadside bomb. After recovering from a coma and learning to use his new prosthetic leg, the Purple Heart recipient fell into depression and started drinking. Then his younger brother died unexpectedly. His drinking and depression got worse.
He challenged himself to abstain from drinking for one day. That happened to be the day he was discovered by a photographer. Minsky, now 24, has since been posing for photos, showing off his tattoos, muscles and his war injuries.
“Just because I don’t have a leg doesn’t mean it’s going to slow me down,” Minsky said. “I want people to look at me and not give up. Not quit.” Continue reading »

Naughty Dog Artists The-Last-Of-Us-ified a Bunch of Locations. Amazing.
If you’ve played The Last of Us, then you’ll know that the game’s world is covered in that post-apocalyptic art design that bluntly reminds you civilization has ended and nature (and death!) has taken over.
Now, Naughty Dog artists (according to Reddit) have “re-created” real world locations in The Last of Us’ art style and it’s both depressing and impressive at the same time. Tourist spots like the Eiffel Tower, and more have been redesigned to showcase overgrown greenery and eerily reminds you what these places would look like if ever the zombie (or infected) apocalypse takes over.
