Raleigh Spitfire Cases
Classic hard case with iconic spitfire finish, the Raleigh Spitfire Cases, designed by Timothy Oulton, can be used as luggage or as a briefcase. The spitfire finish takes its cue from the historic English spitfire airplane in World War II, it echoes the plane’s multi-riveted construction of interlocking aluminium panels, and is finished through a five-stage process that creates an impression of worn, distressed metal.
The Raleigh’s name pays tribute to the eponymous British explorer, soldier, historian and poet Sir Walter Raleigh. Continue reading »

Spectacular Tree By Wang Yue
Shijiazhuang (石家庄), capital of north China’s Hebei Province, a grey city suffering from the worst case of smog this winter, has recently found temporary relief in these lovely “paintings on the bark”.
In the bleak winter, these lovely paintings of beautiful sceneries as well as animals looking out from the tree trunks brighten up the ordinary street outside the city’s No. Nine Middle School, bringing smiles to people’s faces. The painter, Wang Yue, a local girl, is currently a senior student of Visual Communication at Dalian Polytechnic University. These paintings on the bare inner layer of tree barks, which she calls “Meitu” (美途 beautiful path, is a play on word, since tu could also be 图 meaning picture), are part of her graduation project. Silicone Pens Give You the Maintenance-Free Lawn You’ve Always Wanted
If you love the look of plants on your desk, but have a nasty habit of killing them through neglect, consider this faux greenery as an alternative. What look like tall blades of grass are actually unfortunately-named Pooleaf pens with long wisps of silicone coming off the end.
They’re just $5 each, which isn’t too shabby, until you realize you’ll actually have to spend well over $100 to fill a pot to recreate the beautiful lawn effect. On the plus side, it will be incredibly obvious if someone steals one of your pens. [via Gizmodo] Continue reading »

Hövding – Airbag for Cyclists
Hövding is a revolutionary bicycle helmet. Unlike other cycle helmets, Hövding is worn as a collar around your neck.
Hövding started out in 2005 as a master’s thesis by the two founders Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin, who, at the time, were studying Industrial Design at the University of Lund.
The idea of developing a new type of cycle helmet was a response to the introduction of a law on mandatory helmet use for children up to the age of 15 in Sweden, which triggered a debate on whether cycle helmets should be mandatory for adults too. Anna and Terese saw their master’s thesis as an opportunity to find out whether it would be possible to develop a cycle helmet that people would be happy to wear – whether they had to or not. Perelman Pencils
Who said creative people didn’t like Science? Designers Alan Temiraev and Vladimir Zotov from The Bold Studio and illustrators Julien Jules and Phil have been inspired by Grigori Perelman, a Russian mathematician who solved the unsolvable: the famous Poincaré conjecture. Full of panache (or pure madness), the genius and crazy Perelman notably turned down the ultimate award in Mathematics, the Fields Medal, as well as another prize worth 1 million dollars.
“In our studio, money isn’t important. What’s important is love and work, perhaps that’s why we respect people like Perelman”, says Alan Temiraev.
These Perelman pencils are finally colourful little reminders of the mathematician’s somehow superhuman intelligence: may they give the one who’s handling them even a tiny drop of his talent! Continue reading »
