In 1978, Janet Delaney moved to San Francisco’s South of Market (SoMa) district because the location was central and the rent was cheap. She was a student at the San Francisco Art Institute at the time. Delaney began taking photographs with a view camera on the weekends. Salt Ponds of San Francisco Bay
Salt evaporation ponds, also called salterns or salt pans, are shallow artificial ponds designed to produce salts from sea water or other brines. The seawater or brine is fed into large ponds and water is drawn out through natural evaporation which allows the salt to be subsequently harvested. The ponds also provide a productive resting and feeding ground for many species of waterbirds, which may include endangered species. The ponds are commonly separated by levees. Continue reading »

San Francisco Zombie Walk 2008

A zombie walk also known as a zombie mob is an organized public gathering of people who dress up in zombie costumes. Usually taking place in an urban centre, the participants make their way around the city streets and through shopping malls in a somewhat orderly fashion and often limping their way towards a local cemetery or other public space.
