Australian Photographer Put A Giant Mirror In A Salt Flat

Since 2003, Australian photographer Murray Fredericks has made at least twenty journeys to the center of Lake Eyre, a desert lake with an extremely high concentration of salt. Fredericks drags all of his equipment out into the barren landscape, capturing the dramatic sky reflected in both the inch-deep water and his rectangular mirror. The images are breathtaking color-based works, my favorites featuring a double horizon locked within the mirror and the water below. Continue reading »

Here’s a new perspective on food: this giant food art by Lithuanian artists Emilija Vinžanovaitė and Jolita Vaitkutė (previously) only emerges as such when seen from a certain angle. The pair uses desserts, condiments, spices, and cheese to create their giant food art pieces, which include famous faces, animals – for example a bee made of fruits that are “just a small part of food diversity that humanity loses if bees disappear” – and street scenes, and can measure up to four metres. 1

An immense granite monument to the mundane was erected in Central Park last week by the Public Art Fund. The 17-foot-tall stone slab is inscribed with a message that, by virtue of the medium, could outlast the civilization around it. For his new sculpture, MEMORIAL, British artist and author David Shrigley has carefully chosen words like “sausages,” “Nutella,” and “tampons”—like a deadpan “Ozymandias,” it’s possible the only record left of a post-apocalyptic New York City will be a grocery list. Giant Cockroach Float: Is That A Cockroach In The Pool?

1

Nothing quite beats the cool water of a refreshing dip in a pool. That is unless you have to deal with the crowds at a community pool. Don’t get me wrong, I love community pools…l just do not like the crowds! There are many things you can do to clear the crowds out of a community pool. There is always the classic prank of dropping a Baby Ruth candy bar and watching people run to their cars! However, I always like to take things in a subtle way and avoid overall panic. Yugoslavia just as any other communist-era regime had a strong need to spend money on making oversized concrete structures.
