Chinese Student Designs Award-Winning Life Slide

A Chinese student, Fan Shizhong’s design of a life slide has recently won the transportation award in this year’s Core77 Design Awards, an annual industrial design award held in the US.

Fan’s multifunctional life slide serves as a ladder truck, an evacuation slide and a crane machine, providing a creative solution when saving lives from high-rise buildings in disasters like fire and earthquakes.

While ladder trucks commonly used by firefighters take 20 minutes to save one person and can only rescue three to five people at a time, Fan claims his life slide can rescue more than 11 people at a time. It will take less than two minutes to save one person.

The industrial design has also won other world-recognized awards including Red Dot Award and iF Product Design Award.
