Basically Alone We Are All: The Superb Embroidered Artworks by Cléa Lala
French artist Cléa Lala creates provocative mixed-media artworks combining embroidery and illustration.
“I graduated in graphic design and applied arts from the public art schools École Estienne and École Olivier de Serres in Paris. Creative freelance since 2012, I specialize in working with embroidery and thread which inspires me for its many formal qualities (line, texture, volume, movement) and as well as conceptual ones (the link, the knot, the connection). Used in tension or loosely, static or moving, threads and lines are a way for me to create threaded metaphors that communicate as a framework my emotions, feelings, my questioning of life, love, connections between people, psychology and philosophy. Common thread in human being… Our lives hanging by a thread… And because I think the more languages you speak, the more you push the boundaries of your world, I’m also experimenting objects and digital world with some stopmotion animations with threads and/or digital lines. For 10 years I have therefore been developing my universe for a ︎︎︎large list of clients from different fields such as LEVI’S, GOOGLE, NORDSTROM, NYLON MAG, and many more to do events and working on illustration and typography artworks for ≠ kind of projects such as windows display, book covers, stopmotion animations, live customizations, on different media such as paper, canvas, fabric.”
