The Superb Minimalist Advertising Vintage Posters Designed by Peter Birkhäuser in the 1940s and ’50s

Born in Basel in 1911, Peter Birkhäuser left an indelible mark as a Swiss artist. His innovative canvas blended dream imagery with analytical psychology.

Initially, he explored landscapes, portraits, and satire, crafting cartoons for Nebelspalter. His novel artistic direction faced skepticism in Switzerland but resonated with a younger, global audience, especially in the U.S. Despite personal challenges, including the loss of his wife and health issues, Birkhäuser continued to create. He passed away at 65 in 1976, leaving a legacy of dream-infused art. Below, vintage photos showcase his 1940s-1950s posters.
