Stunning Public Health Posters From World War II

During World War II, public health posters became an essential lifeline, reminding citizens of their role in protecting not only themselves but their communities and soldiers on the front lines.

With striking visuals and simple, urgent messages, they inspired everyday actions like handwashing, disease prevention, and supporting wartime nutrition—all crucial to the war effort. These posters didn’t just guide behaviors; they called for resourcefulness, teamwork, and a shared commitment to morale and safety at home. Created by the U.S. Public Health Service, they carried a poignant message: every person’s health was vital to keeping the nation strong and its soldiers in the fight.
