Hold My Juice Box: 1964’s Most Epic Carpool
Move over clowns, there’s a new record for packing people into a tiny car!
It’s 1964, the spirit of silliness is in the air, and a group of students from Laudra Vista Junior High in Fullerton, California have decided to achieve legendary status. Their weapon of choice? A Volkswagen Beetle. Their mission? To cram in as many teenagers as humanly (or should we say, teenagely?) possible.

On May 12th, these Fullerton daredevils, a mix of 13 and 14-year-olds (10 boys and a whopping 21 girls, all averaging 100 pounds and 5 feet tall), managed to squeeze a mind-blowing 31 bodies into the iconic little Beetle. Talk about tight quarters!
Apparently, these record-breakers weren’t messing around. They practiced beforehand with a family car, supposedly hitting a cool 25 (the “old record” according to them). But to truly etch their names in car-packing history, they borrowed a Beetle from a dealer for the official attempt. One can only imagine the look on the dealer’s face when they returned the car – hopefully not too permanently reshaped!
Whether this record ever got officially recognized is a mystery, but one thing’s for sure: these Laudra Vista students sure knew how to have a good time (and probably gave their parents a heart attack or two!).
