Artist Duo Paint Fairy‑tale‑like Scenes Suspended Between Sweetness And Menace, As If A Bedtime Story Had Started To Go Wrong

Aleksey and Anton Tvorogov (Tvorogov Brothers) are Moscow‑born twin artists (both 1988) who work as a duo, known for painterly, slightly uncanny scenes that feel like fragments of a fairy tale caught between childhood and adulthood.

Starting to paint together in 2009 after one gifted the other a beginner’s art set, they developed a process where they first hand‑sculpt their characters in clay and then use these maquettes as references for oil paintings, drawings and animations. Their works often depict children, animals and toys—especially bears—in ambiguous situations that balance tenderness and unease, as in their ongoing series “The Bear got sick” and their book The Fox; this practice has brought them to exhibitions and fairs from Moscow and Europe to KIAF Seoul and Art OnO.
