Men With Flowers In Their Beards

Men around the world are putting beautiful arrangements of flowers into their beards.
It’s hard to identify who started the trend, however, one of the pictures on our list dates back to 1977. This probably means that the idea was born even earlier with the hippie movement and John Phillips’ song “San Francisco”. The line “If you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair”, inspired thousands of young people from all over the world to travel to San Francisco, wearing flowers in their hair and now, apparently, in their beards.

Getting nice greeting cards from your loved ones makes every holiday or celebration even more special. But how would you react if instead of saying “Happy Birthday!” your card would read “You’re Old”? Etsy shop FINCHandHARE specializes in creating funny greeting cards that look somewhat insulting at first glance, but cheerfully say the opposite when folded out. “I imagine the cards in this shop bringing a little excitement to mailboxes all over the world,” says Heather Abbot, a witty owner and designer of FINCHandHARE. String Prototype: Jungle Gym Cube Helps to Climb and Explore
A group of designers has created a contender for the world’s best jungle gym – a giant inflatable bubble which has endless lengths of rope inside. The unusual project, called String Prototype, has lengths of rope and cables threaded inside the bubble that can take the weight of a person, so users can climb around and explore. The cube’s designers are a Croatian and Austrian collective, Numen, founded by Sven Jonke, Christoph Katzler and Nikola Radeljkovic, who specialize in large-scale interactive projects. When the inflatable cube deflates the ropes get loose and lay on the ground, which means it can be easily packed away. Continue reading »

International Origami Exhibition: Showcasing a Broad Spectrum of Possibilities
Surface to Structure: Folded Forms is an exhibition of origami artwork that brings together the work of 88 artists spanning five continents to the The Cooper Union in Manhattan. The 134 works in the show encapsulate a broad spectrum of origami’s possibilities, both artistic and scientific, and push the perceptions of this art form beyond its traditional boundaries.
Surface to Structure marks the 55th anniversary of the very first origami exhibition held in the United States, which was also housed within The Cooper Union. The historic works of that seminal exhibition served as a foundation for the contemporary origami of today, which has progressed into a far greater range and complexity of styles, techniques, and genres.

New Impossibly Tiny Landscapes Painted on Food by Hasan Kale

From onion peels to kiwi seeds or even bits of chocolate, it seems any canvas is sufficient for Turkish artist Hasan Kale as long as it meets the requirement of being incredibly tiny. Hasan delights in the challenge of depicting landscapes of his native Istanbul in the most infinitesimal of brush strokes, a feat that requires the use of a magnifying glass to appreciate the details of each piece. While the longevity of each object he paints is questionable, the steadiness of his hand is impressive to witness. Continue reading »
