These very interesting instruments, in spite of having been manufactured using less advanced production techniques than the current ones, are of unquestionable quality, they are manufactured of the finest materials, by the best professionals and craftsmen, besides their aesthetic appearance which is primarily functional as their usability is more important than their form, which makes them a reliable and durable, that would allow their continued use in spite of their age.”

1942 ‘Time Capsule’ Apartment Discovered in Paris
This real-estate story sounds almost like a fairy tale or the beginning of a big Hollywood production.
Back in 2010 a Parisian apartment on the Right Bank, near the Opéra Garnier, left unoccupied since 1942 was discovered. It was owned by Madame de Florian – a socialite and an actress – who fled to the South of France during the second world war, leaving everything behind. She never came back to Paris but kept on paying her rent until the day she died when she was 91. It’s only after she died that someone – a Commissaire Priseur – Auctioneer – re-enter her apartment for the first time in over 70 years. Continue reading »

The Biggest Christmas Tree in the World

The biggest Christmas tree in the world is the one in Gubbio, Italy – a magical sight that will get anyone in the holiday spirit.
In 1981 the residents of the town in Umbria decided to take matters into their own hands. They set up a single tree that the whole town could enjoy. Ten years later, their tree – resting on the side of Mount Ingino – set the Guinness world record with its 450-meter base, 750 meters of height, and 130,000-square-meter surface (equivalent to thirty soccer fields). The tree is made of almost one thousand lights, wired to about eight kilometers of electrical cables. It lights up on the evening of December 7, the eve of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and is left on until January 6, day of the Epiphany. Continue reading »
