Daring filmmakers find a unique way of filming crocodiles – by wearing crocodile wetsuits to swim up close to the terrifying predators. Wildlife biologist Forrest Galante and cameraman Mark Romanov journeyed to the clearest waters and adopted the unusual strategy of mimicking a large adult crocodile by wearing a special scaly wetsuit. Photographer Mike Kelley Captures Air Traffic In A Way You’ve Never Seen Before

Mike Kelley is a Los Angeles based photographer specializing in architecture, interiors, commercial spaces, as well as aerial and aviation photography. When he initially began the project two years ago, Kelley’s plan was relatively straightforward: fly to 10 or so cities around the globe and spend a day or two at each airport scouting the location, taking photos, and then off to the next destination. This plan worked well in Europe where the weather was consistent, but soon he faced the reality that seasonal weather in places like Japan was completely unpredictable. In Tokyo he left without a single usable photo after days of trying. Some cities he had to return to 2-3 times in hopes the weather would improve, and in other places it would take nearly a week to photograph enough planes to make an image. Continue reading »

Yao Ethnic Women Keep Long Hair Tradition Alive

The Yao nationality is a government classification for various minorities in China. They form one of the 55 ethnic minority groups officially recognized by the People’s Republic of China, where they reside in the mountainous terrain of the southwest and south. They also form one of the 54 ethnic groups officially recognized by Vietnam. In the last census in 2000, they numbered 2,637,421 in China, and roughly 470,000 in Vietnam.

The Huangluo Village of the Yao ethnic group locates at the Longji Terraces in Heping Town of Longsheng County in Guilin. Women here have the tradition of keeping long hair. They believe that long hair brings good luck and fortune. The average length of hair of 180 women in the village is 1.7 meters. Continue reading »

A young male orangutan makes the 30-metre climb up the thickest root of the strangler fig high above the canopy in Gunung Palung national park, one of the few protected orangutan strongholds in Indonesian Borneo.
