Wildlife Photographer Of The Year 2019: The Best Shots From This Year’s Competition
The annual photography exhibition opens at the Natural History Museum in London on 18 November. Nearly 50,000 entires from professional and amateur photographers were submitted this year and 100 will be on display. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in the Natural History Museum’s Hintze Hall on 15 October.

The Past in Focus: 200 Fascinating Vintage Travel Photographs Are Being Restored
Two-hundred obscure photographs that have been buried in archives around the world are being brought to new life by Diana Metzinger, a young woman from Cleveland, who is restoring the images for her crowdfunding project The Grand Tour which will be running until February 4th on Kickstarter.

Last year, she chose to unearth 100 rarely-seen historic images for a restoration project entitled The Past in Focus. The town, once home to a thriving coal mining industry, is full of abandoned buildings that the government does not have funds to repair. The extremes in temperature (in winter it can get as cold as -40C) make the buildings unstable and liable to collapse.
Up above the Arctic Circle, 40 hours by train from Moscow, sits the Russian city of Vorkuta. It was built by gulag inmates but was given purpose by the coal industry that used to be the region’s lifeblood. Now mining has disappeared, leaving many of its outposts abandoned.
