Architect Joe Chikamori of 07BEACH has outdone himself when it comes to producing a pet-friendly home. In the span of only 49 days, the architect was able to redesign his friend’s Vietnam-based residence by installing several modern features. The most interesting installation: a separate staircase for his friend’s small dogs. After Facebook assumed the former Sun Microsystems complex in Palo Alto in 2011, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg set out to find an architect capable of handling a grand design for its main main headquarters building. Zuckerberg chose world famous architect Frank Gehry for the job. At more than 435,000 square feet, spread across 22 acres, the new building dips and rises from 45 to 73 feet. Platu, an Olive Tree Designed for Olive Oil

The Platu is a unique and functional object of design, specifically for use as an olive oil dish for tasting with bread. Consisting of two complementary parts, the organic and expressive design of the Platu is inspired by the fluidity of olive oil and the purity of the olive tree. The white colour is not only a reference to the purity of this tree, a symbol of ancestral heritage, it is also intended to highlight the different colours and densities of the olive oil. The square base, glazed black, frames and enhances the white form, emphasising the design. The Platu is a 100% portuguese project created by designer Miguel Pinto Félix. Continue reading »
