These powerful images capture the spear-wielding tribes of Papua new Guinea who believe they are possessed with the spirit of the crocodile. They show how the Kangunaman clansmen scar their backs to resemble reptile scales while the Huli Wigmen wear elaborate headdresses to signal they are ready for battle. The Kunai men – armed with spears, bows and axes – are pictured with striking red, black and yellow paint on their faces. Northern Irish photographer Trevor Cole took the stunning images during a gathering of tribes known as a Sing-Sing.

Photographer Michael Massaia Captures Haunting Images Of Central Park When No One Is Around
During his mid 20s, Michael Massaia developed a terrible case of insomnia. In order to give himself a break from sitting around all night “staring at the walls,” he began to go on long walks. Massaia grew up in New Jersey but became enamored with New York City during his late-night strolls, when the city was less congested and fewer people were around. Thankfully, the self-taught photographer took his camera along, creating the series “Deep in a Dream, Central Park.”
Massaia worked a series of “crappy” jobs, including stints in movie theaters and warehouses, before finding photography. Continue reading »

These Images Give A Rare Insight Into The Life Of A 19th Century Indian Maharajah
Maharajah Ram Singh ruled in the famous pink city of Jaipur between 1835 and 1880, and was also a keen photographer. Despite being a child when he ascended to the throne, the Maharajah embraced modern amenities and under his leadership the city became one of the most distinctive in the country.

He would often roam the streets incognito to observe how state officials were carrying out their work, and was recognised by the British Government, which added four guns to his salute and nominated him as a member of the Viceroy’s Legislative Council. During his reign new water works, gas works, museums and schools were built, and he devoted a lot of his time to capturing the costumes and culture of his people with his then state-of-the-art camera equipment.
