Wildscreen Photography Festival 2014
From towering elephants to tiny insects, photographers will be offering a rare insight into the natural world at this year’s Wildscreen Photography Festival 2014. The festival, formerly known as WildPhotos, is the UK’s largest wildlife photography show. The Wildscreen Photography Festival 2014 will be taking place between 24-26 October at London’s Royal Geographical Society.

British Wildlife Photography Awards 2014 Winners
The British Wildlife Photography Awards winners have been revealed, with Lee Acaster from Suffolk taking home the top prize for his shot of a Graylag Goose in London. Winners of the Royal Navy Peregrine Trophy Photography Awards
The Royal Navy Peregrine Trophy’s main aspiration is to encourage and inspire wider production of powerful imagery that would represent the Royal Navy and Royal Marine’s operations in media. The role of photography, portraying the work of the Royal Navy has never been more important. The Royal Navy photographers who have captured images of life in the Royal Navy as well as the service’s technical prowess have been honoured at an annual awards ceremony in London. They were “recognised for their talent, dedication and creativity”.

Entries of the Scottish Seabird Centre’s Nature Photography Awards
The Scottish Seabird Centre is a visitor attraction in North Berwick, East Lothian, Scotland. Opened by Charles, Prince of Wales in 2000 and funded by the Millennium Commission, the showpiece of the centre is the network of cameras which beam back live pictures from the bird colonies on islands such as the Bass Rock and Fidra. The local abundance of gannets, puffins and more has been described by Sir David Attenborough as one of the “Twelve Wildlife Wonders of the World”.

2014 Sony World Photography Awards
“Abore Sandstorm”. This picture was taken in Omo Valley, Ethiopia. My guide and I reached an Arbore village and while we are speakng with the boss I looked to my right and i saw a brown tsunami coming to us. It was an incredible moment, women protecting of the storm with their cloths and I closed my eyes. When I thought the storm was over I opened my eyes and I saw this boy seating on an old tree, I ran to catch this Arbore portrait with the queue of the sandstorm in his backside. National Geographic Photography Contest 2013 Call for Entry
National Geographic invites photographers from around the world to enter the 2013 National Geographic Photography Contest. The grand-prize winner will receive $10,000 (USD) and a trip to National Geographic headquarters in Washington, D.C., to participate in the annual National Geographic Photography Seminar in January 2014.
Eligible contestants can visit www.ngphotocontest.com to submit photographs in one or all of three categories: People, Places and Nature. Entry fee is $15 (USD) per photo, and there is no limit to the number of submissions per entrant. Entries must be in digital format and submitted electronically. The contest, which is now open, ends Saturday, November 30, at 11:59 p.m. ET (U.S.).
“Eastern Screech Owls like to take over woodpecker nests that have been dug out over the years in pine trees, which are the main species of tree at this swamp. Fish and wildlife also paint a white ring around the base of a tree that has active nests in order to avoid when conducting controlled burns. Screech owls can range in height anywhere from 8-10 inches, so you have to have a sharp eye to find these little birds of prey. I spent the first few weeks of April this year photographing the grey morph screech owl that was living in the nest, and had no idea there were three owlets inside”. A visual collaboration between the photographer Beth Galton & food stylist Charlotte Omnes, and it’s called “Cut Food” and it features a look at food in a way you normally would not see it. According the Beth, the series was originally inspired by an assignment in which they were required to cut a burrito in half for their client. Fantastic Infrared Photography by Oleg Stelmakh
In infrared photography, the film or image sensor used is sensitive to infrared light. The part of the spectrum used is referred to as near-infrared to distinguish it from far-infrared, which is the domain of thermal imaging. Wavelengths used for photography range from about 700 nm to about 900 nm. Film is usually sensitive to visible light too, so an infrared-passing filter is used; this lets infrared (IR) light pass through to the camera, but blocks all or most of the visible light spectrum (the filter thus looks black or deep red).

A New SPiN on Low Light Photography
SPiN Galactic features 12 tables in a club light setting, there is some very cool lighting but very challanging to photograph. Each table is lit with a square of light directly above the table simular to a pool table, there are several other sources of light that make it difficult to find a white balance that works. To make things a little more difficult as the player backs away from the table during a volley they move out of the light falling onto the table. In photographs by Steve Russell for Toronto Star.

Virtual Reality Photography
VRP stands for “Virtual Reality Photography”. This is a personal project of Leonardo Sang, that uses video games as platforms for everyday photography. VRP’s objective is to show how video games have a full visual capacity and complexity to create a proper photographic ambient and also show how photography can be applied in many ways. All the pictures created are composed just like “real world” photography. Basic colour composing, alignment, lines, geometry and etc… sometimes just curious snapshot.
