Deep, Hipsterish “Words on Pictures” Parody

1
We all know those photos with worthy worldly wisdom added that you come across on every available network. All you need is a cool hipster-style image treated with all manner of filters, and then you slap a sentence onto it. There’s probably a bit of software that will generate one for you. But this collection really pokes fun at the whole trend and subverts the content completely. All the little added comments and slogans give these emotional, reflective photos a really ridiculous aftertaste

Breathtaking Pictures Show 50-tonne Whale and Calves Swimming Underneath Vessel

A group of wildlife watchers scan the open ocean for activity – as a huge whale drifts just below them. These amazing images show a 50-tonne southern right whale and its calves swim within touching distance of a small tourist vessel and its crew. The massive mammal dwarfs the boat and could easily crush it with one swipe of its 15ft tail.

But according to wildlife photographer Justin Hofman – the family seemed more intent on making friends. He said: “Being in the water with a whale is the most humbling experience I’ve ever had underwater… Not only are these animals massive, but they are long-lived, intelligent, cultural beings… Swimming along with a curious right whale calf was nerve-racking. At any moment I thought ‘mom’ was eventually going to get annoyed with me and swat me with her 15ft tail – and I’d be a goner.” Continue reading »

Unseen Beatles Colour Pictures of First US Tour go on Sale

Rare and unpublished early colour photos of The Beatles on tour are to be sold at auction. They were taken during the Fab Four’s triumphant summer 1964 visit to the US, when most early photos of the band, and even films, were in black and white. Colour was more expensive and seen as too extravagant for a pop group from Liverpool – who many felt were just a passing fad.

The images were taken by Dr Robert ”Bob” Beck, an award-winning research physicist and inventor who died in 2002 and left them in a huge archive of photographs and slides in his Hollywood home. The lot will go on sale on March 22, 50 years to the day in 1963 when The Beatles released their first album, Please Please Me. Continue reading »

Stezaker’s famous Mask series fuses the profiles of glamorous sitters with caves, hamlets, or waterfalls, making for images of eerie beauty. Continue reading »

Their only equipment are standard cameras – but a waterproof case means they do not need to sacrifice their cameras for their art”. (Nick Selway/CJ Kale/Carter News) Continue reading »
