Meet Bára Prášilová, The Mastermind Behind Absurd Humor in Photography
Czech photographer Bára Prášilová has carved out a unique niche for herself with a distinctive style that blends absurdist humor, striking beauty, playfulness, and a touch of cruelty, all underpinned by her relentless pursuit of perfection.
Her visual universe is populated with imagined memories of events that never happened, and explorations of possibilities that might have unfolded had we let go of our self-imposed limitations. She often makes her own props, which she later integrates in post-production with the benefits of digital photography. By blurring the lines between commercial photography and fine art, Bára is pioneering a category all her own. Her exceptional work has received numerous awards and exhibitions both in the Czech Republic and internationally.
Some of her notable achievements include being selected as a Quiksilver ambassador in 2009, being named Photographer of the Year by the Academy of Design of the Czech Republic, Czech Grand Design in 2009 and 2011, and being one of the esteemed winners of the Hasselblad Masters World Competition in 2014.
