Mexican Pointy Boots: Las Botas Picudas
Photographers Alex Troesch and Aline Paley first saw the long, pointy Mexican boots on a video through Facebook. Inspired by the video they saw, the Brooklyn-based duo, who have known each other three years, traveled to Matehuala, Mexico in late January to see the boots with their own eyes.
In northern Mexico, the pointy boots trend is more about flash than fashion. “They’re worn by people who want to impress other people,” Troesch says. In fact, one boot maker they met had transformed a regular pair of shoes into pointy boots for a client who wanted to impress the jury of a dance contest. That’s how the fervor started—but not everyone is a fan. Continue reading »

Jon McNaughton: Artist Depicts Obama with Burning Constitution in Viral Controversial Painting
Jon McNaughton, an artist known for painting provocative images within politics, has released his latest controversial painting of President Barack Obama holding a burning Constitution, in a photo that has gone viral on the Internet.
The newest painting, “One Nation Under Socialism,” shows a smug Obama holding a copy of the Constitution in his hands while it burns. According to McNaughton, Obama’s hands represent “his recognition of what is happening [to the Constitution] as it goes up” [in flames].
According to McNaughton, he chose the title to convey his opinion about the growing trend of socialism in the U.S.
“When the people are willing to sacrifice the next generation for their current lifestyles and allow the federal government to have all the power for an illusory mess of pottage-you have chosen One Nation Under Socialism,” he wrote.
McNaughton said socialism has never worked in the past, also providing a link to an article from The Free Man Online, as to why socialism failed.
“In the history of the world, never has there been a recorded example where Socialism has led to the betterment of the human condition or improved the liberty of the people,” he said.
However, McNaughton said there are other components to this painting though he is not ready to spill all just yet. McNaughton told CBS that this painting “has brought out more feelings among those on both the right and left than my other previous political paintings.”
Jon McNaughton has painted other provocative, and controversial for some, paintings in the past, including one of President Obama stepping on the Constitution.

Big East Tournament 2012: Louisville, Cincinnati to Wear New Adidas Camo Uniforms
The Big East Tournament will look a little flashier as the University of Louisville and University of Cincinnati men’s basketball teams will be wearing new, ultra-lightweight adidas adizero uniforms this week at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y. Louisville will begin to wear them in their first game of the tournament on March 7 while Cincinnati will wear theirs beginning on March 8.
According to an adidas press release, Louisville’s new uniforms will be more than 25 percent lighter than their previous uniforms, while Cincinnati’s new uniforms will be more than 20 percent lighter than their previous uniforms in terms of performance. The jerseys feature what’s called a ClimaCool zone, also used in the NBA, which moves heat and sweat away from the body for breathability and to keep the jersey from gaining weight.
The teams’ shorts, which are unlined so that they are lighter and more comfortable in tandem with compression base layers, possess a four-way stretch woven material used to increase mobility and speed.
In terms of design, the uniforms feature new pixelated, camouflage patterns to shed weight and make players faster. The camouflage was inspired by the concept of teamwork, and amplified school colors pay homage to the excitement of NCAA tournament.
Baylor Basketball Uniforms
The Baylor’s men’s basketball team is the latest to adorn some heinous uniforms as a way to create some interest.
Baylor unveiled its Adidas designed basketball uniforms on Tuesday ahead of the team’s Big 12 Tournament game against Kansas State on March 8th. The specially designed uniforms are bright yellow and “pay homage to the high intesity of March Madness,” according to a Baylor press release.
Baylor says that the new uniforms are lighter – more than 20 percent than past uniforms — and will allow players to be quicker. The uniforms utilize Revolution 30 technology and the backs of the jersey have a ClimaCool zone that apparently gets heat away from the body.
