North Carolina’s Abandoned ‘Wizard of Oz’ Theme Park Will Haunt You
Written as a novel by L. Frank Baum in 1900, the Wizard of Oz became an acclaimed Technicolor film in 1939. The success of that film led to the exploration of prequels and sequels desperately seeking the fame and recognition that the orignal musical film garnered. Perhaps the boldest iteration was the recreation of the Land of Oz as a theme park in North Carolina’s Beech Mountains. Photographer Johnny Joo visited the site and photographed the ruins, full of wild roots and thick fog. Photographer Joel Santos dived 1000km into the depths of Northern Mongolia to visit the Ganbaa family near Khovsgol Lake. Despite only being able to spend three days in the Tsaatan familyÌs camp, Santos travelled for four days to reach them – three driving and one on horseback – before repeating the epic journey to return home. Travelling with an interpreter and a fellow photographer from Màràn, Mongolia, the photographer met the Ganbaa family, led by matriarch Purev who lives with Buyantogtokh, a widowed reindeer herder. Incredible pictures of the real life Mowgli, a girl who spent the first ten years of her life growing up in the African bush, have been released for the first time. The magical images chronicle the life of Tippi Benjamine Okanti Degré, who was brought up with wild animals, just like Rudyard Kipling’s hero did in The Jungle Book. The images – in the relaunched book – “Tippi: My Book of Africa” – show the young girl making friends with an elephant, who she calls her brother, and a leopard, her best friend. Living with her French parents, wildlife photographers Sylvie Robert and Alain Degré, the three of them travelled extensively through Africa on a unique and incredible trip. Continue reading »

The Angel Oak Tree is a Southern live oak located in Angel Oak Park on Johns Island near Charleston, South Carolina. The Angel Oak Tree is estimated to be at least 400 years old[citation needed]. It stands 66.5 ft (20 m) tall, measures 28 ft (8.5 m) in circumference, and produces shade that covers 17,200 square feet (1,600 m2). Its longest branch distance is 187 ft. in length. Stunning images have revealed ice-cool British tourists chilling out inside Europe’s largest glacier – despite being at risk of flooding. The spectacular collection of images show the explorers braving the freezing temperatures to climb, photograph and even abseil down the inside of the icy cliff sides. Another image shows one visitor on his knees appearing to pray next to a water fall of melted ice. Some cases of plagiarism are the usual copy-the-photo-and-present-as-their-own, but this one just tops them all. At the base of the story are Lauren Bullen and Jack Morris two travel photographers and some of Instagram’s power couples, and Instagram’s favorite travel power couple with just over two million followers combined. An instagramer, @diana_alexa, is not only following the couple, but copying their every photo, down to the smallest details, like wardrobe, hards, composition, even the food. Mark Williams and his wife Heidi Loutzenhiser love halloween so much they fill their home with over 1,000 creepy dolls before opening it up for the public to enjoy over the halloween season.
