When Lego Meets Star Wars
If there were two things I absolutely loved when I was a kid, it was Lego and Star Wars. So when I saw these incredible miniature photographs by Avanaut of the snow battle on the planet Hoth from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back using only Lego men, memories of my childhood come rushing back in a storm of fanboy nostalgia.
The creator of these photographs is Finnish illustrator and designer Vesa Lehtimäki or “Avanaut”. He started making his first Lego pictures set on the snowy planet of Hoth back in 2009 and has slowly been adding more and more over the years.

Battle Of Helm’s Deep Made from Lego
Based on the layout of Helm’s Deep featured in Peter Jackson’s film adaptation, this 150,000 brick set piece is astounding. The artists, who go by the names Rich-K and Big J, apparently, nail the atmosphere and scale of the conflict of one Lord of the Rings most iconic scenes. At the time these photos were taken, the model was about 90% complete, with an estimated four months worth of work. The time, money and personal investment that must have gone into this project is impressive. Continue reading »

Lego Battleship Yamato Is Biggest Lego Ship Ever
Japanese Lego builder Jumpei Mitsui has been hard at work at a 1:40 model of the famous Battleship Yamato for over a year. This gargantuan model puts the Millennium Falcon to shame, stretching out for over 20 feet and using a whopping 100,000 pieces. The Lego version was constructed at minifig scale (1/40), which is an amazing task that resulted in these specs: 22 feet long, 3 feet wide, 330 pounds and more than 200,000 Lego pieces. Lego Recreates Year 2011 From UC Davis to Royal Wedding
When The Guardian began posting pictures of a giant Lego Christmas tree being erected in London’s St. Pancras Station, the newspaper’s Flickr account inspired users to create 3D Lego pictures of 2011, giving “the year’s news” through a series of submissions done entirely in Lego blocks.
Encompassing everything from the pie-ing of Rubert Murdoch to Obama and his national security team in the war room, from the topical and silly to the powerful and transcendent, these artists created not just scenes but occasionally entire worlds within their Lego creations.
