Caroline Gaudreault Creates Enigmatic Oil Paintings With Anthropomorphic Cats, Birds, And Girls Draped In Rococo Detail And Quiet Symbolism

Caroline Gaudreault is a Canadian magical‑realist figurative painter from Alma, Québec, known for strange, classical‑looking portraits of animals and humans that sit somewhere between fairy tale, allegory, and fine art.

She paints in oils (and sometimes watercolor) with a refined, almost academic touch, then inserts surreal details—anthropomorphic cats and birds, ornate costumes, symbolic objects and quiet, theatrical backdrops—to explore identity, loneliness, tenderness, and the thin line between reality and imagination. Her work has been shown in galleries such as Musonium Gallery and in themed group shows like “Filling the Void: Antithesis,” while she also shares process reels and small works with her online audience.
