Russian Photographer Captures Breathtaking Photos Of Milky Way Mirrored On Salt Flats In Bolivia

In May 2016, Russian photographer, Daniel Kordan, traveled to the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia – the world’s largest salt flat and took some photos that look out of this world. Using a Nikon D810A astrophotography DSLR and a 14-24mm f/2.8 Nikon lens, he managed to capture the Milky Way being reflected on the flooded salt flat at night, and the results are absolutely breathtaking. UK Astronomy Photographer Of The Year 2016 Shortlist
Gorgeous galaxies and stunning stars make up this selection of pictures from the shortlisted entries for this year’s Insight Astronomy Photographer of the Year award. The winners will be announced on 15 September, and an exhibition of the winning images will be will be displayed in a free exhibition at the Royal Observatory Greenwich’s Astronomy Centre from 17 September.

This Wedding Photographer Turns You Into A Miniature Person
In Thailand, there’s a wedding photography business that’s attracting quite a bit of attention. It’s called คนตัวเล็ก, which literally translates to “Small Person.” The photographer’s specialty is making couples look like miniature figures living in a giant world. Each of the photographer’s pictures is a composite. After photographing the clients, the couple is cut out of their background and inserted into a small scale scene. A tilt-shift effect is then added to the photo to mimic the shallow depth of field look you get with macro photos. Continue reading »

Photographer Capture’s Kawau Birds Perched On Electric Wires In Tokyo
The Kawau are large seabirds, not unlike seagulls, that were pushed to the brink of extinction in Japan in the 1970s due to pollution. But in recent years they’ve come back – with a vengeance. Estimates now put the population of Kawau in Japan at as many as 150,000 and last year they were responsible for over 10 billion yen (about $100 million) in damages to the fishing industry because of their voracious appetite for eel and ayu (sweetfish). National Geographic Travel Photographer Of The Year 2016 Winners
The annual National Geographic travel photographer of the year contest attracted 10,000 entries worldwide this year. The grand prize went to Anthony Lau for his shot of a horseman in Inner Mongolia, winning him a trip to a polar bear photo safari at Churchill Wild-Seal Heritage Lodge. The Winter in Inner Mongolia is very unforgiving. At a freezing temperature of minus twenty and lower with constant breeze of snow from all direction, it was pretty hard to convince myself to get out of the car and take photos. Not until I saw Inner Mongolia horsemen showing off their skills in commanding the steed from a distance, I quickly grab my telephoto lens and capture the moment when one of the horseman charged out from morning mist. The overall awards winners have been announced in the 2016 Atkins Ciwem environmental photographer of the year competition, an annual international showcase for thought-provoking photography and video that tackles a wide range of environmental themes.
The environmental photographer of the year 2016 is awarded to Sara Lindström for her imposing photograph “Wildfire”.
Swedish-born Sara picked up photography while studying in South Africa, and is now based in the Canadian Rockies. Her projects have seen her travel across more than 50 countries, capturing the beauty of the more remote corners of the Earth. “It was an exceptionally warm day in July in southern Alberta when I came across this massive pinkish smoke plume rising high towards the sky. Wildlife photographer Danté Fenolio has headed into areas untouched by sunlight – deep seas, caves and underground – and found creatures that are exploding with colour.
First are these blue-spotted jawfishes, which live in tropical reefs in the eastern-central Pacific Ocean, including the Gulf of California. They live in burrows that they block themselves inside each evening. In the morning, they remove the debris so they can pass through the burrow opening again.
