“Carol Mayer was left near death following a house fire when a young mother. She incurred horrific burns to over 80 percent of her body … her family was told she would not survive. However, survive she did after enduring the year-long agony of intensive care, operations, and skin grafts to recovery. Spectacular Winning Photos of The 2020 Royal Air Force Photographic Competition
Judging for the 2020 Royal Air Force Photographic Competition has recently taken place with the winners chosen. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, this year’s competition was reduced from 13 categories to just four: Personnel, Current RAF Equipment, RAF Operations and Exercises and the “Peoples’ Choice”.
Over 900 images were submitted across the competition’s three categories, with the best nine images chosen by the three industry professional judges.

This Year’s Incredible British Ecological Society Photography Competition Winners
Images of a jumping spider, an elusive gecko and battling birds are among a selection of amazing photos to have been picked in this year’s British Ecological Society photography competition. The overall winner of the competition is an image of a flying dalmatian pelican by Alwin Hardenbol. Hardenbol said he took thousands of pictures trying to perfect the shot.
“I gave this image the title ‘The art of flight’ because of how impressive this bird’s wings appear in the picture, you can almost see the bird flying in front of you despite it being a still image,” Hardenbol said.

These incredible pictures offer a window to history that exists all around.
They are the winning and shortlisted images in the Historic Photographer of the Year Awards 2020, which were unveiled today by broadcaster and historian Dan Snow and historic and cultural travel experts Trip Historic. This year’s awards called on photographers to scour their photographic archive and ‘share their most astonishing imagery of those places which dominate our past’.
Winner: Where History Happened, Palmyra, Syria. “This image was taken before the civil war in Syria at the ancient city of Apamea. I’d dragged my family out of bed early, when it was cold and dark, to ensure we were at the Great Colonnade early enough to catch sunrise and the golden hour. I’d got my timings wrong and we were an hour early so sat around wondering where the sun had gone and waiting for dawn. It was worth the wait. I felt privileged at the time to have the opportunity to visit Apamea, but even more so since the civil war damaged some of these most impressive monuments”. Spectacular Winning Images from The Wildlife Photographer of The Year 2020
Photographer Sergey Gorshkov’s picture wins the Wildlife Photographer of the Year grand title with an ethereal image of a Siberian tiger scent-marking a gnarled fir tree in the Russian Far East.
The picture, titled The Embrace, shows the intimate moment an endangered Siberian tiger hugs an ancient Manchurian fir tree to mark it with her scent. It took Russian photographer Sergey Gorshkov over 11 months to capture using motion sensor cameras. Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge announced the image as the grand title winner in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, which received over 49,000 entries.

With an expression of sheer ecstasy, a tigress hugs an ancient Manchurian fir, rubbing her cheek against bark to leave secretions from her scent glands. She is an Amur, or Siberian, tiger, here in the Land of the Leopard National Park. Gorshkov installed his first proper camera trap in January 2019, opposite this grand fir. But it was not until November that he achieved the picture he had planned for, of a magnificent tigress in her Siberian forest environment.
