Helen Waites founded Plyconic, a London design studio specializing in 3D artworks depicting postwar modernist architecture using layers of plywood. Her inspiration came from observing the changing light and shadows at the Barbican in London, leading her to start a Kickstarter campaign.

“Born out of the love and respect for twenthieth century furniture. Plyconic emulate the shape and style of these iconic designs, stripping back the design from the materials, made in ply the pieces showcase the raw design and shape.

‘God is in the detail’ Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe

By using just one material the designs are simplified. How the pieces are constructed becomes the detail and the stratified edges of the ply amplifies the beauty of it’s simplicity and construction.”
