Fallas is a traditional celebration mainly held in the Spanish city of Valencia and its surrounding regions, but also celebrated in other parts of Spain and even internationally where Spanish communities exist. The festival is celebrated annually from March 15th to March 19th.
Central to Fallas are large, elaborate sculptures made of wood, cardboard, and papier-mâché called “Fallas” or “ninots.” These sculptures often satirize political figures, celebrities, or current events. Throughout the festival, these sculptures are displayed in the streets, and on the final night, they are set ablaze in massive bonfires called “cremà.”
In addition to the elaborate sculptures, Fallas features parades, music, fireworks, and other cultural events. It’s a vibrant and lively celebration that attracts tourists from all over the world. The festival has deep roots in Valencian culture and traditions, dating back several centuries.
