Illustrator Creates Cozy Grunling Worlds With Anthropomorphic Fruits And Vegetables Turning Everyday Nature Into Pastel Storylands

Johanna Forster is a German illustrator and character designer best known for her “Grunlings” (Grünlinge) – a cast of cute, anthropomorphic fruits, vegetables and plant spirits that live in a bright, cozy fantasy world.

Working mainly in Procreate, she builds soft, textured digital illustrations with pastel palettes, gentle gradients and lots of tiny nature details, then turns the Grunlings into calendars, pins, prints, happy‑mail, colouring pages and a forthcoming family card game. Her work balances Ghibli‑inspired charm, video‑game world‑building and a love of plants, inviting viewers into a calm, eco‑friendly universe where small spirits help with gardening and seasonal rituals.
