Concept Artist Chris Doretz Shares The Heavy Industrial Sci-Fi Worlds Designed For Major Video Games

Chris Doretz is an art director, concept artist, and industrial designer whose work shapes major science-fiction entertainment projects. Bringing a strong foundation in industrial design to the digital art space, he has contributed visual development and hard-surface design to leading game franchises and industry giants, including Star Citizen, Microsoft, Eidos, Rockfish Games, 1047 Games, and Turtle Beach.

His visual portfolio is defined by functional, believable machinery, heavy industrial complexes, and atmospheric planetary outposts. From sleek reconnaissance vessels skimming across desolate flats to gargantuan extraction cranes towering against hazy, sun-bleached horizons, Doretz balances high-tech mechanical logic with moody environmental storytelling. His scenes frequently employ dramatic low-key lighting, dense atmospheric haze, and deep teal or golden palettes that emphasize scale and functional realism.
