The Walking Bread

The Walking Bread is an art series depicting scenes from a certain similar sounding TV show (which itself returns on the 9th of February), only with the twist that all the characters are made out of bread. That’s right.. Bread!! A mixture of parody and downright creativity bring to life a miniature world in a way that captures the imagination. A moody zombie bread slice – scoops jam from the disembowelled body of another bread character in one scene.

Mark Nathan Willetts is the artist behind the series. He came up with the idea after jotting down some wordplay ideas for illustrations, and then decided with a moment of Eureka to take it a step further. Each of the characters were cut from a single slice of bread to make it seem as if they had just climbed straight out of a loaf. To further embellish the scenes, a range of buffet related items were used such as: cocktails sticks, BBQ grill etc. Finally lighting design was used to capture a comic book feel reminiscent of the Walking Dead comic book covers.

There are fourteen pictures covering 10 unique and fun scenes. Just be careful because this bread bites back! Continue reading »

Pittsburgh Zombiefest 2011

Zombie Fest founder Mark Menold has been organizing charity zombie walks all around the world as part of World Zombie Day. Pittsburgh Zombie Fest, which is now in its fifth year, is the headquarters for the global charity event and has earned Pittsburgh the Guinness Book World Record for “Largest Gathering of Zombies”.

By virtue of the success of the movies from Pittsburgh pioneer filmaker George A. Romero (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Creepshow), and our now world famous zombie walks, Pittsburgh has become what Mr. Menold refers to as “The Zombie Capital of the World”. Furthermore, Zombie Fest is a socially conscious event, collecting food donations for those less fortunate and cash donations for Komen for the Cure. The Horror Of Sleep Paralysis Hallucinations Revealed In 46 Dark Drawings

I’m A Little Bit Panicked That I May Find Myself In Sleep Paralysis Again

Source

Sleep paralysis is a curious thing. As you might know, during an episode of sleep paralysis a person is unable to move or speak, all the while being totally aware of that. If that wasn’t enough, there’s also an eerie twist – while being paralyzed, one might also see hallucinations, which, when seen for the first couple of times might be intensely scary. And to make it just a little bit more fun, visual hallucinations are never pleasant, merely the level of terror felt might vary. Of course, there are a couple of theories why these things happen to usually otherwise healthy people, but nobody knows for sure. Continue reading »

Stories Hidden In Images: A Designer Has Created Book Covers Made Of Random Stock Photos

Alan Moore, the author of the comic V for Vendetta, noticed once that people tend to imagine their own lives as stories, and they browse them as in a movie – by rewinding to an appropriate moment.

The truth is that we are a narrative genre – we just love to listen and to tell stories. First, we listen to fairy tales read by parents and with time we start looking for new ones in books, comics and movies. We have an irresistible attraction to fictionalization – our minds create stories based on perceived images and thus, reveal our personalities and the power of imagination.

In PIXERS, we experience a boundless number of images and an equal amount of our clients’ stories every day. Sometimes, we get tired of such an overproduction and we try to exercise our imagination by assigning new unexpected meanings to the images that usually only flash in front of our eyes.

Below, you can see the effect of such an experiment: 10 book covers made of random stock photos by our graphic designer, and with fictional plots that I invented myself. Are these books new (imaginative) bestsellers?
