Scientists have discovered a vivid porphyrin-based biofluorescence in two species of springhares, Pedetes capensis and Pedetes surdaster.
One of the more peculiar and rarest traits in the animal kingdom is the ability to glow in the dark. Some animals, including deep-sea fish and fireflies, are able to produce light in the visible spectrum. This is called bioluminescence, and it’s quite rare, but there’s another type of luminescence that some animals possess which we can’t see with our naked eyes. It’s called biofluorescence, and it’s the ability of an animal to glow under specific light conditions, like UV light. Continue reading »

Jurgen Vollmer captured these images of George Harrison with wind-blown, slicked back hair during and after a ferry ride on Hamburg Lake in Spring 1961. By this time, The Beatles had adopted the brushed forward hairstyle worn by Vollmer, Astrid Kirchherr and Klaus Voormann. Attractive Female Portraits By Natalia Ivanova That Show How Diverse And Beautiful Humans Are
Natalia Ivanova is a Paris-based Russian photographer and documentary filmmaker who started the Les origines de la beauté (The Ethnic Origins of Beauty) project back in 2012 (previously). In it, she photographs women from various ethnic groups around the globe, highlighting their uniqueness and beauty, and proving what a beautifully diverse world we live in.
Natalia writes that the aim of the project is to ” show the real scale of ethnocultural diversity in a full, systematic and creative way”, as well as to illustrate all distinctive ethnic groups out there. So far, the photographer and her team have took over 250 portraits of women from more than 110 different ethnic groups, and the project looks to be far from over.
