Spectacular Winning Photos Of The Astronomy Photographer Of The Year 2018 Contest
The Royal Observatory Greenwich has announced the winners of its annual Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition. American photographer Brad Goldpaint beat thousands of amateur and professional photographers from around the world to take the top title. His shot shows immense red rock formations with the Milky Way looming overhead on the right and the Andromeda galaxy on the left. The winning photographs will be exhibited in the National Maritime Museum.

A very creative father (and uncle) who goes by the name Griddlock Cosplay built an absolutely brilliant Mechwarrior costume that requires both a child and an adult in order to make it work. There is a fully functioning fan and Arduino controlled LED lights to make the costume more realistic. Freed from any concerns about market demands, Fiore had license to reimagine the car as sci-fi masterpiece, with the driver at the center flanked by two slightly recessed seats on either side. “The highly functional fascia has every control at the driver’s fingertips,” writes Flavien Dachet. “It includes an inboard computer with a screen displaying information about the car and the road. Small pop-up computers were also integrated into the door panels, ahead of the grab handle. “Sculpture By The Sea 2018”: Sydney’s Annual Beachside Art Exhibition
Grey skies threatened to dull the first days of Sculpture by the Sea, Sydney’s free annual beachside art exhibition, with the unveiling of 107 sculptures along a 2km stretch of coastline at Bondi. While heavy rain over the past few weeks meant a handful of sculptures were yet to be installed, a burst of warm weather on Saturday saw crowds turning up to catch a glimpse of the quirky, startling, contemplative and surreal oceanside artworks.

Vancouver Cops, Four-Legged Pals Pose For 2019 Police Dog Charity Calendar
Vancouver police have released their 2019 canine calendar, starring action-packed and cuddly photos of their police dogs. The $15 calendar features police dogs and their handlers in their best crime-fighting poses and was created by retired Sgt. Mike Anfield in honour of his wife, Candy, a police officer who died of breast cancer in 2004. Since 2010, calendar sales have raised more than $200,000. The winners of the Landscape Photographer of the Year 2018 have been announced. This international contest is designed to showcase the beauty and diverse nature of the British landscape, although the competition is open to photographers around the world.
Pete Rowbottom was named Landscape Photographer of the Year 2018 for his striking image of Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands, becoming the 12th winner of the overall title and claiming the £10,000 (about $13,000) top prize.
Blizzard in the High Peak, Derbyshire, by John Finney: “After a difficult journey in the snow, I made my way from Mam Tor down onto the Great Ridge. As the clouds got darker, I placed the tripod and camera at just the right angle to avoid snow getting onto the lens, and used a flash gun and a relatively slow shutter speed to highlight the fast motion of the blizzard”. These Inflatables Make It Look Like There’s A Sea Monster Attack In Philadelphia
Over at Philadelphia’s Navy Yard, street artists Filthy Luker and Pedro Estrellas have put up a huge installation that makes it appear as if a giant sea monster is trying to get out of a two-story warehouse. The piece, entitled Sea Monsters HERE, is the biggest inflatable sculpture made by the UK-based duo to date.
