2012 NBA All-Star Game New Adidas Uniforms Design Pays Homage
Adidas unveiled its new 2012 NBA All-Star game uniforms Thursday, saying that designs are supposed to pay homage to the uniforms donned by the 1992 All-stars, which included game most valuable player Magic Johnson. Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard and Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose, who both have megadeals withh adidas, will wear bright orange versions of their signature sneaker lines – Howard, the adiPower Howard 2, and Rose, the adizero Rose 2.5.
Other gear getting a makeover include:
Warm-up jackets – along with the jerseys, these lightweight, windbreaker style, full-zip jackets feature a hardwood heather pattern inspired by the floor of the Orlando Arena in 1992 and sun-drenched Florida. They also feature elbow patches and a laser perforated color contrast.
Warm-up pants – these are functional stretch denim pants that feature mock denim stitching and pockets.
Both the jackets and pants feature tonal grey coloring with East (Blue) and West (Red) accents for a stylish off-court look to match the laid back Florida vibe.
Shorts – these woven shorts are inspired by board shorts and feature a sublimated mesh pattern for high performance and breathability. Along with the jerseys, they also feature tonal blue and red colors and three stripes of silver and gold accent coloring on the sides in order to stand out. Continue reading »

Rihanna Drops $160K for Bedazzled Marilyn Monroe Artwork

Rihanna recently dropped $160,000 for new artwork, a Swarovski crystal bedazzled Marilyn Monroe portrait that glistens in the light because she reportedly identifies with the fallen star.
British artist Claire Milner was commissioned through Gemstone Creative to construct the five square-foot mural of Monroe for 23-year-old Rihanna’s Beverly Hills mansion. The artwork, which took four months to complete, is comprised of more than 65,000 Swarovski crystals weighing in at a total of nearly 120 pounds. Continue reading »

South African model Candice Swanepoel, best known for her work with luxury brand Victoria’s Secret, has added another feather to her crown by featuring in the new spring campaign by designer Prabal Gurung.

Joining the race is the British luxury brand Alfred Dunhill, which has signed three legendary Olympian stars to feature in their Spring/Summer 2012 Voice campaign. The maker of men’s luxury leather goods, timepieces, clothing and fragrances has announced that British Olympian Sir Matthew Pinsent, double Olympic gold medal sailing champion Iain Percy and trail-blazing young Olympic hopeful Louis Smith will be the new face of their campaign.

Assembly: A Sense of Comfort through Proximity
Assembly is a project of Lorea Sinclaire, canadian industrial designer, and the collaboration between a haptic wearable device and a network of proximity. The goal of this research project was to create a user experience that promotes safety and comfort in the urban environment.
The wearable device uses symbolic language to communicate a need or receive a notification. For example different touch gestures imply different meanings. Doing up a button will send out passive signals of your location. stroking the discrete lining of the hem will send out a ‘friend call’. A combination of two hands swiping the outer arms implies you need serious help.
This user interaction utilizes embroidered conductive thread as touch sensors, and an integrated GPS module to send out location. Continue reading »

Eric Wong, managing director of a capsule bed manufacturer, poses in a modified capsule bed inside a showroom in Hong Kong, Jan. 7. The beds, which are modified for the Hong Kong market, have adjustable ceilings, a larger air conditioner and a TV.
