The Tan Hill Inn: The Highest Pub in the British Isles
At the top of the Yorkshire Dales, 1,732 feet above sea-level and 11 miles from the nearest town, this most isolated 17th Century pub is one of the few in the land that has seen business thrive of late. Observer photographer Gary Calton was dispatched along with reporter Tracy McVeigh, to find out why.

Peugeot take you behind the scenes of the making of their latest TV ad, crafted entirely from paper. There are dozens of paper cuts, hundreds of Peugeot models and an infinite amount of patience.
Peugeot didn’t take the easy option and animate in CGI. They looked for something different, something more authentic and crafted to reflect Peugeot’s philosophy for designing their vehicles. With that in mind, Peugeot asked London designer Kyle Bean and director Joseph Mann to make this Peugeot commercial entirely from paper.

2012 NBA All-Star Game New Adidas Uniforms Design Pays Homage
Adidas unveiled its new 2012 NBA All-Star game uniforms Thursday, saying that designs are supposed to pay homage to the uniforms donned by the 1992 All-stars, which included game most valuable player Magic Johnson. Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard and Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose, who both have megadeals withh adidas, will wear bright orange versions of their signature sneaker lines – Howard, the adiPower Howard 2, and Rose, the adizero Rose 2.5.
Other gear getting a makeover include:
Warm-up jackets – along with the jerseys, these lightweight, windbreaker style, full-zip jackets feature a hardwood heather pattern inspired by the floor of the Orlando Arena in 1992 and sun-drenched Florida. They also feature elbow patches and a laser perforated color contrast.
Warm-up pants – these are functional stretch denim pants that feature mock denim stitching and pockets.
Both the jackets and pants feature tonal grey coloring with East (Blue) and West (Red) accents for a stylish off-court look to match the laid back Florida vibe.
Shorts – these woven shorts are inspired by board shorts and feature a sublimated mesh pattern for high performance and breathability. Along with the jerseys, they also feature tonal blue and red colors and three stripes of silver and gold accent coloring on the sides in order to stand out. Continue reading »

Rihanna Drops $160K for Bedazzled Marilyn Monroe Artwork

Rihanna recently dropped $160,000 for new artwork, a Swarovski crystal bedazzled Marilyn Monroe portrait that glistens in the light because she reportedly identifies with the fallen star.
British artist Claire Milner was commissioned through Gemstone Creative to construct the five square-foot mural of Monroe for 23-year-old Rihanna’s Beverly Hills mansion. The artwork, which took four months to complete, is comprised of more than 65,000 Swarovski crystals weighing in at a total of nearly 120 pounds. Continue reading »

South African model Candice Swanepoel, best known for her work with luxury brand Victoria’s Secret, has added another feather to her crown by featuring in the new spring campaign by designer Prabal Gurung.
Regarded as one of the world’s top earning models, Swanepoel has earlier appeared in a number of other fashion campaigns for the likes of Tommy Hilfiger, Dolce and Gabbana, Fendi, Chanel, Betsey Johnson, Diane von Fürstenberg, Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier and numerous other designers. Smart Bullet Path

In this undated time exposure photo provided by Sandia National Laboratories, a light-emitting diode, or LED, attached to a self-guided bullet at Sandia National Laboratories shows a bright path during a nighttime field test. The New Mexico-based Sandia National Laboratories announced Tuesday that its engineers have invented a bullet that directs itself to a target like a tiny guided missile and can hit a target more than a mile away. According to Sandia Labs engineers, the bullet twists and turns to guide itself toward a laser-directed point. Officials say it can make up to thirty corrections per second while in the air. Winter Weather around the Northern Hemisphere
Temperatures have plunged in parts of Europe and further east. Among the hardest hit countries is Ukraine, where as many as 30 people have died on snow-covered streets, in hospitals and in their own homes in the past four days. Lifeguards Race to Sharpen their Lifesaving Skills
Lifeguards from the South Florida area gathered at the Juno Beach Pier on Tuesday to participate in a competition sponsored by the United States Lifesaving Association. In choppy waters they raced about two miles on their long boards around the pier and then ran 100 yards carrying their boards.
