The Andromeda galaxy, or Messier 31 (M31), is one of the closest and the largest neighbour of the Milky Way, and the most distant object the human eye can see. Yang Hanwen provided the original picture of M31.

Törmänen was thrilled to meet a school of inquisitive European perch on her annual snorkel in Honkalampi lake. In the previous three years she had found only dead fish. She framed the fish flying through clouds of pink-tinged algae. Although it created a beautiful scene, excessive algal growth, a result of the changing climate and warming waters, can cause problems for aquatic wildlife as it uses up oxygen and blocks out sunlight. A truly spectacular yew, with roots that grow into and around the ruins of Waverley Abbey – the first monastery founded in Britain 900 years ago by the reforming Cistercian religious order. After the dissolution of the monasteries in 1536, the abbey was dismantled. It is a beautiful tree with roots that sprawl out above ground before plunging into the earth. Its multi-stemmed form is dotted with holes, crevices and areas of decay that provide a habitat for other species. Age: The exact age is unknown but it can not be more than 480 years old. 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the V&A Illustration Awards. Established in 1972, they have since become the UK’s most prestigious annual illustration competition. Spectacular Winning Images of The 2022 Australia’s National Photographic Portrait Prize
Wayne Quilliam’s Silent Strength, a photograph of Aurukun man Eric Yunkaporta, has won the 2022 national photographic portrait prize. Quilliam says the capture of Yunkaporta in ceremonial headwear is akin to a trickle of water merging into a small stream, then into the ocean.

As Melbourne struggles through many days of restrictions, with limited options to play and learn for the kids, four-year-old astronaut Mia puts on her homemade space suit and helmet and goes on exploration missions in the familiar neighbourhood, using her imagination to turn the mundane world around her into an exciting adventure.
