For Design Geeks: Old School Tattoos That Pay Tribute To Famous Typefaces
Based in São Paulo, Brazil, designer Will Jr. has created a series of temporary tattoos that feature well-known typefaces, including Helvetica, Garamond and Futura. Inspired by old school tattoo artworks, each of these designs consist of a single letter that is surrounded by decorative elements like floral motifs—the name of the typeface is spelled out on a banner placed across the letter. Color Palettes From Famous Movies Show How Colors Set The Mood Of A Film

Color sets the tone and mood of a film before any of the actors have even uttered a word. Directors Lilly and Lana Wachowski used a green tint in The Matrix (1999) to create a mood palette that was suggestive of the early monochrome computer monitors. Yellow was used in Kill Bill (2003) to depict Uma Thurman’s character’s madness and instability. Romantic comedies use pastel shades like beige, pink and lilac. Sci-fi and cyborg films use shades of blue, grey and green. Teal and orange seem to be the trend in Hollywood nowadays, especially in movie adaptations of graphic novels and comic books. What World’s Famous Landmarks Could Look Like In An Epic Drought
A graphic designer has produced a haunting look at what the world’s most famous landmarks would look like if they were hit by a severe drought. Joel Krebs has intricately dried up hot spots such as the Tower Bridge in London, the Capitol in Washington, D.C., Niagara Falls and Machu Picchu. The designer’s works are enough to make viewers feel thirsty – they feature cracked surfaces, roll upon roll of sand, and vultures searching for carcasses in the dry heat. Joel, from Salem, Ore., revealed the idea behind the series came to him when he entered a design contest to remove famous landmarks from their surroundings, as if they’d disappeared.
