Stunning Photos Of Ecstatic Teenagers Screaming At Pop Concerts In The 1960s And 1970s

August 21, 1964. The Beatles in Seattle

Were you there? Did you scream hysterially as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Osmonds, The Bay City Rollers, or one of the dreamy Davids – Dave Clarke, David Cassidy, David Essex and David Bowie – performed? Was that you being led away in a state of ecstatic hysteria out as Charlie Watts carried on regardless? Did you ‘Love Paul’?

If you or someone you know appears in any of this gallery, do let us know. Did you recover from the rock-induced rapture? Or does Dave or any surviving member of one of the ‘Thes’ make you gibber and wail? Continue reading »

The Photographer Terry O’Neill Is Eighty

Here: Jean Shrimpton, 1964. ‘People used to say she looked like a doll, so I took her to a doll’s hospital I used to pass on my way to the office. She was the best model I ever photographed, without a living doubt.’

Terrence Patrick “Terry” O’Neill is eighty. Born in Romford, Essex just over a year before the start of ww2 within ten years he was meeting celebrities at theatre stage doors collecting autographs for his mother. “Mum loved the theatre and collecting autographs but she was very shy so I would get them from people like Sir Laurence Oliver and Noel Coward.” Continue reading »

Here’s How Some of Rock and Roll Legends Would Look Like Today If They Weren’t Dead

So many musicians have passed away too fast over the past couple of decades. They left their fans heartbroken, listening to their music until today. Regardless of your taste in music, chances are you remember when the news cycle covered one of their deaths. You are probably constantly thinking about what they could have yet created if they hadn’t died. Unfortunately, we cannot possibly know that, but what we could do is imagine what they would look like today if they were still alive.

Elvis Presley – Jan. 8, 1935 – Aug. 16, 1977

The King of Rock and Roll, who died in 1977 at age 42.

That’s exactly what the Sachs Media Group set out to do with the project you’re about to see. They have teamed up with photo restoration and manipulation company Phojoe to create speculative portraits of what rock and roll’s greatest musicians might look like if they were still alive today. ‘World’s Worst’ Waxworks Collection Sold

Louis Tussauds House of Wax in the English seaside town of Great Yarmouth had been quietly disappointing customers for over 50 years when it rose to prominence in 2008 after being labelled “the world’s worst waxworks.” The museum shut down last year after owners June and Peter Hayes retired, but this month the collection of unlife-like models of stars, athletes and royalty found a new home when they were snapped up by an anonymous buyer from the Czech Republic. The waxwork heads above, if you haven’t already guessed, are of ’70s heartthrobs and “Starsky and Hutch” actors Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul. Of course they are. Red Bull Soapbox Race Speeds into London 2013

Red Bull racers – soapboxes including a Beatles-inspired yellow submarine, a police car and a black cab are taken for a test drive ahead of the Red Bull Soapbox race at Alexandra Palace, London on 14 July. The vehicles, which each took three weeks to make, are made from BMX bicycle wheels and a steel axel steering mechanism. They were customized using plywood, polystyrene and cardboard tubing, and are covered in coloured plastazote foam with details such as number plates and other branding created using vinyl.

After a nine year hiatus, the world’s wackiest road race returns as 70 human-powered soapboxes compete for glory as part of a festival of music and fun. Entrants include a loaf of bread baked to soapbox size, Elvis’ blue suede shoe and a Royal baby carriage. Off the race track, there will be plenty of action to keep the crowds entertained including face painting, ‘people pit-stops’ and live music from DJs. Continue reading »
