South Korea’s Drive-Ins Offer Respite From Pandemic Drudgery

Drive-in cinema in South Korea is thriving after years of decline and months of restrictions on human-to-human contact. Couples and families alike are desperate for distraction and a break from the confines of their apartments.

Drive-ins are popular as people can feel as though they are mixing with others, yet remain within their own cars and family units.

‘We’ve had a 10-20% increase in sales for weekdays, and sell out on weekends,’ drive-in cinema owner said. ‘We’re definitely getting many more calls and internet inquiries after the coronavirus outbreak.’
