Helmut Newton’s iconic photograph of Cindy Crawford and Helena Christensen poolside in St. Tropez, published in Vogue December 1991, perfectly exemplifies the photographer’s signature style of erotic, stylized images with a strong narrative and portrayal women with a sense of power.

Despite his contributions to the fashion industry and his work being exhibited in galleries and museums, Newton self-identified as a “gun for hire” rather than an artist.
