You Will Not Die: Mysterious London At Night in Paintings by Darren Hayman
Darren Hayman, the British artist and musician who fronted the band Hefner, felt a pang of longing as he walked his dog at night.
He gazed at the “lonely windows”, glowing with warmth and life. He wondered what stories and secrets they hid. He decided to capture them in paintings and poems, creating a nocturnal portrait of the city. His book and exhibition invite us to imagine the lives behind the windows.
‘Are they friendly or distant? Are they content or restless?’ he asks. ‘These squares of light are like puzzles, waiting to be solved.’
