Bertone created the Chevrolet Testudo, a concept car based on the modified Chevrolet Corvair Monza platform, which debuted at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show.

Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and named after the Latin word for “Turtle,” the car aimed to combine distinct styling perspectives and featured a rear-mounted Chevrolet Turbo-Air 6 engine. Bill Mitchell, GM’s Vice President of Styling, hoped to boost Corvair sales in Europe by using locally styled versions, leading to Italian Carrozzeria, including Bertone, submitting designs.
