Enthusiasts Made A Keyboard In The Shape Of A Cheese Plate

Cheese and mechanical keyboards—two seemingly unrelated passions that share an unexpected linguistic quirk.

Enthusiasts of both often use elaborate, almost theatrical adjectives to describe the sensory experience tied to their hobby. Take cheese, for instance: if it develops a natural, edible mold, aficionados opt for the refined term “bloom.” A pungent aroma? That’s not a bad smell—it’s simply “robust.” The word “creamy” makes perfect sense in the context of cheese, describing texture and mouthfeel, yet somehow, keyboard enthusiasts have co-opted it to describe switches in a way that is far less literal and, arguably, far less flavorful.
