Tractor-Cycle, Treaded Motorcycle Designed by French Inventor J. Lehaitre, ca. 1938

Tractor cycle 1

In 1938, French engineer J. Lehaitre introduced the “Tractor-Cycle,” an ambitious attempt to revolutionize off-road military vehicles.

This unique machine replaced conventional wheels with a single, continuous track system designed to navigate rugged terrain where traditional motorcycles failed. Although it was designed to carry a machine gun and could reach speeds of up to 25 mph, the Lehaitre Tracked Motorcycle was ultimately rejected by the French army after military trials. At 414 kg, the vehicle was deemed too heavy, unstable, and less maneuverable than its wheeled counterparts.
