South Korean Artist Creates Gentle, Surreal Heartwarming Paintings Sharing Small, Wordless Moments At The Edge Of Loneliness And Comfort

Jeon Pil‑hwa (Pil Hwa) is a contemporary South Korean artist and illustrator known for quiet, surreal digital paintings where humans and animals—especially cats—share small, intimate moments in soft, muted worlds.

Originally trained in mechanical engineering, he moved into independent art and built a distinctive style using mainly Procreate: blurred edges, simple compositions, and gentle colour that evoke loneliness, comfort, and wordless companionship. Alongside his widely shared comics and illustrations, he experiments with oil and acrylic painting, printmaking and NFTs, expanding his “small world” of bittersweet stories into different media.
