Daniel Widrig Uses 3D Printing and Robotics to Create Objects That Feel Less Like Machines and More Like Strange Living Organisms

Daniel Widrig is a London-based artist, architect, and designer whose work turns digital models into physical objects that look grown, eroded, stretched, or caught mid-transformation.
His practice spans sculpture, furniture, fashion, architecture, glass, and public art, using 3D printing, robotic fabrication, CNC milling, and experimental materials to collapse the distance between computational design and handmade-looking form.
His work does not treat technology as a way to make objects colder or more perfect. Instead, Widrig uses digital simulation and fabrication to introduce surprise: a chair can look soft and swollen despite being 3D-printed; a glass form can preserve the evidence of gravity, heat, and unpredictability; a sculptural object can resemble bone, coral, muscle, geological matter, or some unknown biological structure.
