All That Social Trash Goes Somewhere
Filippo Minelli forces the occasional viewer of his artworks, and the people fond of his artworks too, to an intellectual gym, stimulating scratching contrasts in our minds. Following conceptual tendences, Minelli pursues a non-objectual dimension of Arts searching relations between the work of art and reality, with culture and social behaviours as clear in his “contradictions” serie. In Minelli’s interventions is investigated the theme of Arts as writing with a resolute “interventist” urge which charges the artist’s action with social-disobedience, instigating the viewer against the superficial and the commercial and cultural deadness of contemporary society. Sometimes Minelli organizes his interventions in series which evolve during the years. A succesful example beside the already-said “contradiction” is the “Google” serie. Continue reading »
YouTube Drawings
In an attempt to disrupt the haphazard collection of archieved videos that youtube has become, the artist duo Comenius Roethlisberger and Admir Jahic transformed the visual (virtual) language of “broadcasting” back into physicality by producing illustrations on a heavy handmade paper from virtual references with elemental art materials to do what they do best, that is, add to the confusion.
In each drawing, the artists have rendered a freeze-frame, complete with video title, user ratings and number of views. The resulting collection is both distressing and humorous in its ability to highlight our often vulgar predilections. Continue reading »

“Euthanasia Coaster” is a hypothetical euthanasia machine in the form of a roller coaster engineered to humanely – with elegance and euphoria – take the life of a human being. Riding the coaster’s track, the rider is subjected to a series of intensive motion elements that induce various unique experiences: from euphoria to thrill, and from tunnel vision to loss of consciousness, and, eventually, death. Thanks to the marriage of the advanced cross-disciplinary research in aeronautics/space medicine, mechanical engineering, material technologies and, of course, gravity, the fatal journey is made pleasing, elegant and meaningful. Samuel Ho “Sho” is a traveling salesman with nothing but a well kept collection of hats and an insatiable desire to create. A designer by profession and artist by heart, he has had his hands in designing websites, fashion lines, books, athletic shoes, diamond jewelry, accessories, exhibits, interiors, furniture and many other things. He learned his skills by working the designer circuit in Manhattan, NY and was inspired to take up illustration from his roommates in Brooklyn. Blurring the line between fine art and innovative commercial work, Sho has refused to pledge to just one discipline of design so he continues to take on multi-faceted projects.

Advertising In Arabic Way
The Muslim world has unusual prohibitions in advertising. This is due to the national and religious peculiarities of Islamic countries. Any advertising, including logos, should be forcibly adapted to local cultural values and the Arabic language. In order to do this you must know what various animals symbolize, what symbols indicate and how those or other subjects can be interpreted in Islamic countries.
For example, dogs are considered to be “dirty animals”, so you can rarely see them in advertising. Fish symbolizes Christianity, a crow – death, and a chameleon – hypocrisy. Continue reading »

Heavy Hand, Sunken Spirit is an ongoing project about the societal costs and consequences of Mexico’s violent drug war. It frames the violence as a symptom, as opposed to the problem, and one of a variety of symptoms that will haunt the country for generations. This country is in the midst of a “conflict” in every sense of the word, and when documenting this conflict it is important not to reduce what is happening to a series of nearly anonymous images of carnage that could be happening anywhere.
