Photographer Mike Kelley Captures Air Traffic In A Way You’ve Never Seen Before
Mike Kelley is a Los Angeles based photographer specializing in architecture, interiors, commercial spaces, as well as aerial and aviation photography. When he initially began the project two years ago, Kelley’s plan was relatively straightforward: fly to 10 or so cities around the globe and spend a day or two at each airport scouting the location, taking photos, and then off to the next destination. This plan worked well in Europe where the weather was consistent, but soon he faced the reality that seasonal weather in places like Japan was completely unpredictable. In Tokyo he left without a single usable photo after days of trying. Some cities he had to return to 2-3 times in hopes the weather would improve, and in other places it would take nearly a week to photograph enough planes to make an image. Continue reading »

A young male orangutan makes the 30-metre climb up the thickest root of the strangler fig high above the canopy in Gunung Palung national park, one of the few protected orangutan strongholds in Indonesian Borneo. Laman had to do three days of climbing to position several GoPro cameras that he could trigger remotely. From Dusk To Dawn: Photographer Creates Amazing Cityscapes Showing The Transition From Night To Day
These stunning photographs are not just colourful depictions of city life – they are also part of a visionary attempt to capture the passage of time in still images. Artist Fong Qi Wei was keen to invent a way to show how scenes change over time, without resorting to a video camera or time-lapse photography. So he captured multiple pictures of the same sites over the course of a day, before splicing them together into a single image taken over several hours. The series is entitled ‘Time is a Dimension’, and aims to prove that skilled photography can show the passage of time just as easily as a video. Continue reading »

Vadim Stein was born in Kiev (Ukraine) in 1967, where he got an education in the sphere of sculpture and restoration. From 1985 to 1992 he worked in the Theater of Plastic Drama – as an actor and a lighting designer. After leaving the theater he got keen on decorative sculpture and graphics. Then it became necessary to take photos of his own works. It was the beginning. Now Vadim Stein lives and works in St. Petersburg (Russia), in the city of the white nights and the melancholy people. Using standard DSLR cameras and a GoPro HERO4 attached to a camera drone, Ryan Deboodt has captured images of one of the world’s best kept secrets. Hang Son Soong, located in Vietnam, is the largest known cave in the world. His work shows the variety and beauty to be found in the daily activities of the local birds, including spiralling storks, swooping starlings and giddy swifts.

Photographer Benedict Redgrove has been granted unprecedented access to document past and present NASA technology, a sneak peek of which can be seen in the new issue of WIRED UK. Six years in the making, Redgrove captures everything from the space shuttle Atlantis and Vehicle Assembly Building, to the new Orion Crew Module, robot Valkyrie R5 and Boeing’s Starliner capsule. Built in complete darkness, a complex city is being constructed. A wild swarm of Honeybees (Apis mellifera) arriving in the spring, is developing natural wax comb formations to support the colony’s future larvae, and food storage. When this colony is at it’s strongest, it will eventually divide. The majority of the bees swarming to a new location with the queen and begin the process of reproducing all over again, thus spreading their genes farther. Photographer Uses 160-Year-Old Camera To Take Eerily Beautiful Portraits
Giles Clement is a contemporary photographer who likes to do things the old-fashioned way, because the Nashville-based creative makes eerily beautiful portraits uses camera equipment made in the 1800s. Clement uses both tintype (a photograph taken as a positive on a thin tin plate) and ambrotype (an early type of photograph made by placing a glass negative against a dark background), two techniques that were popular in the 1850s and the 1860s, and as you can see from the pictures below, the end result is both haunting and arresting. How Soviet Space Dreams Became A Photographer’s Inspiration
The rocket and space program of the USSR, along with the exploration of the universe left its mark on the country. Obviously, it reflected on the people’s minds as well. Every other little boy wanted to be an astronaut. One of them was the photographer Ivan Mikhailov. As a child, he often stared at the stars, and thought of planets and space adventures, while sitting atop of a rocket-shaped slide near his house.
