Banksy’s Art In Hotel With World’s “Worst View”

The owner of a guest house packed with the elusive artist Banksy’s work has opened the doors of his West Bank establishments to media, showcasing its unique “worst view in the world”. The hotel, several of whose rooms look onto an Israeli security watchtower, is awash in the trademark satirical work of the mysterious artist. The highlight is room number three, known as “Banksy’s Room”, where guests sleep in a king-size bed underneath Banksy’s artwork showing a Palestinian and an Israeli in a pillow fight.

The hotel also features a presidential suite and a museum with the artist’s politically-charged work. It has the markings of a gentleman’s club from the English colonial period. The entrance to one small niche accommodates a life-size figure of Arthur James Balfour signing his 1917 letter that came to be known as the Balfour declaration, and was the basis for the international push for the creation of Israel. The cheapest rooms were available from $30 a night. The nine-room hotel named “The Walled Off Hotel” will officially open on March 11. Continue reading »

Adobe Has Just Launched A Clothing Line With The Worst Stock Photos

1

Adobe team has just launched a line of clothing featuring some of the worst stock images ever, and the weird part is that they actually look pretty cool (on slender and attractive models at least). The range is called Adobe Stock Apparel, and Adobe came up with the creative idea to promote their new royalty-free image service called Adobe Stock. Head over to the Adobe website to peruse the full range. They’re not for sale though, which is a shame, because if there’s one thing missing from my wardrobe it’s a t-shirt with a picture of a laughing woman eating a healthy vegetable salad on it. ‘World’s Worst’ Waxworks Collection Sold

'World's Worst' Waxworks Collection Sold
Louis Tussauds House of Wax in the English seaside town of Great Yarmouth had been quietly disappointing customers for over 50 years when it rose to prominence in 2008 after being labelled “the world’s worst waxworks.” The museum shut down last year after owners June and Peter Hayes retired, but this month the collection of unlife-like models of stars, athletes and royalty found a new home when they were snapped up by an anonymous buyer from the Czech Republic. The waxwork heads above, if you haven’t already guessed, are of ’70s heartthrobs and “Starsky and Hutch” actors Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul. Of course they are. Pollution in China the World’s Worst

The expeditious growth of industry in China over the last decade has been disastrous for the country’s environment. China is currently the number one producer of carbon dioxide in the world and hundreds of thousands of people die a premature death each year thanks to pollution.

Even with new regulations on waste disposal, air and water pollution continues to rise. Often, factories, chemical plants and mills dump waste directly into waterways and chemicals flow from farms down into the soil and watersheds. Rivers have become choked with algae and slick with oil, while thousands of dead fish continue to wash ashore in some areas.

Lake Erie Algae Bloom Regarded as Worst in Decades

Lake Erie Algae Bloom Regarded as Worst in Decades

A massive algae bloom on the waters of Lake Erie in the U.S. is believed to pose a significant threat to aquatic life forms in the lake. The algae, which is toxic, is sucking the oxygen out of the water. According to reports, this is the worst bloom since the early 1960s. Scientists have also revealed that the bloom is caused, primarily, by the phosphorous from agricultural waste that is washed into rivers.

According to NASA Earth Observatory, such blooms were common in the lake’s shallow western basin in the 1950s and 60s. Phosphorus from farms, sewage, and industry fertilized the waters so that huge algae blooms developed year after year.

However, the condition improved in the 1970s when regulations were imposed on agricultural and sewage treatment procedures to limit the amount of phosphorus released. However, this year, a giant bloom has spread across the western basin once again. The particular reasons for the bloom are complex but may be related to a rainy spring and invasive mussels. Villages Abandoned Near Europe’s Worst Climate Polluting Power Plant

The villages of Charavgi and Kleitos, located in the valley of Ptolemais in Greece, have been gradually abandoned since the Greek Public Power Corporation (PPC) opened two power plants in the region.

Situated near the town of Kozani, some 500 kilometers north of capital city Athens, the PPC’s power plants – Kardia and Agios Dimitrios – are allegedly the European Union’s top two Carbon-di-Oxide-emitting power plants and have been dubbed the worst climate polluting power stations, according to a May 2007 WWF survey called “Dirty Thirty”.

As per the report, the Agios Dimitrios power plant emits about 12 million tonnes of CO2 per year, while the Kardia power station emits about 9 million tonnes of CO2 annually. The two power plants are Greece’s biggest, producing about 70 per cent of the country’s electricity but they have affected human settlements in their locality.

The PPC reportedly “bought” the once flourishing nearby villages of Charavgi and Kleitos and relocated residents elsewhere. Now almost a deserted area, the only person who lives in Kleitos is an Indian immigrant – Jangdip Pal, 45, who works as a night guard at the lignite mine, Reuters reports. In Charavgi, only one shepherd lives, along with his family.
